Loft Case Study - At Barrisdale we treat each new loft conversion as unique and always put your concerns, questions and schedule at the forefront of the loft conversion build. As well as adhearing to all building regulations, structural and architectural specifications as shown in our loft case study "stage one & stage two".

Loft Case Study Stage One - Firstly Barrisdale would conduct a feasibility survey to see if your loft can be converted which is part of our service consultation.

Loft Case Study Stage Two - Once Barrisdale has permission from the relevant authorities the company is in a position to commence work

Bonnet Dormer - A Bonnet Dormer is an extension to a roof with a small pitched roof of its own. Local Authorities only permit full Dormers to be erected at the rear or side of a property.

Hip To Gabel - This type of loft conversion is generally for semi-detached houses and on the very rare occasion, end of terrace houses.  This involves changing the hipped end (sloping side) to a gable end (flat end), thus creating a much bigger loft area, generally to incorporate a new stair case to the loft. This type of loft is normally constructed under permitted development; therefore, planning permission is not always required.

Mansard Loft - Usually required by Local Authorities on Victorian-Style properties or where clients are following the Mansard trend of similar conversions within their locality. This would be constructed at the rear of your property and has a flat roof; however, the back wall slopes inwards at an angle of 72 degrees.

Rear Dormer - Rear Dormers are conversions that create a square end to the rear of the house. This creates maximum space and also creates additional headroom for the staircase and new room or rooms. If an additional en-suite bathroom is proposed along with the rooms the increased height created by the Dormer provides additional height above the fittings.

Side Dormer - These are smaller Dormers and are usually constructed to maintain the aesthetics of your property. Planning permission is not always required

Velux Windows - These convert a loft area already available by fitting a flat window into the roof. It does not change the shape of the roof at all or increase the amount of space. However by using Velux Windows it does give much more light into your loft. Planning permission is not usually required and you have to main options of a Flat Roof System or Dormer Roof System
